Sea turtles are an essential part of marine ecosystems, as they help maintain the health of the beds, seagrasses and, of course, coral reefs.

Sea turtles can lay more than 150 eggs per nest, although this will depend on the season, among other climatic and environmental conditions.

Fortunately, there are many beaches in Mexico where these animals come to spawn, among which the coasts of Oaxaca, Riviera Nayarit, Puerto Vallarta, Baja California and the Riviera Maya stand out.

Within the Riviera Maya, from May to October, we can find sea turtle nests in various places such as Akumal, Xcacel – Xcacelito and Tulum; where the ovation of the White Turtle or Green Turtle, Caguama, Carey and Laúd occurs.

Thanks to private, governmental and public organizations interested in the conservation of these species, the areas where the turtles will be born are cared for and protected. Doing it through signs, tapes, and fences that distinguish the place and deny access to that part.

Between July and November, turtle release nights occur, when babies break the egg and begin to move towards the sea, letting themselves be carried away by their instincts.

These events are magical and inspiring, generating a great awareness in the care of our planet and the other living beings that inhabit it.

If you want to participate and know more about these beautiful aquatic animals, we invite you to the 17th Edition of the Turtle Festival in Tulum from October 18 to 20, 2019; where there will be artistic, recreational and cultural activities aimed at strengthening awareness of the protection and preservation of these endangered species.
