The 17th edition of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival took place from November 29 to December 1, in one of the best-known locations in Playa del Carmen: Mamita’s Beach Club.
This jazz festival, expected by many, brings together leading national and foreign groups that mark a constant display of evolution, diversity and new contributions to this musical genre. Thanks to the more than 40,000 people who were present and for whom this festival has already turned 17.
This event started with all the energy of the group Mr. Mandril, who through a fusion of jazz, funk and rock delighted the audience with their sounds.
Magos Herrera, a Mexican singer, delighted visitors and locals with his great voice. Magos Herrera has appeared in the best art and music venues in the world, and we had the privilege of enjoying his captivating voice.

Chucho Valdés –winner of 11 Grammy music awards– raised the spirits of jazz lovers with his Afro-Cuban rhythms. Chucho Valdés Oficial is a highly influential jazz figure whose music has traveled the world: tonight we were the lucky ones.
What a great night at the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2019 and what a way to close the first day with a flourish!
On 30th November, the excitement of listening to this wonderful musical genre was in full swing.
With a spectacular and powerful voice, the young Natalia Marrokin lit the stage to open the second night of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2019. This Mexican musician opened with a mix of soul, jazz and blues.
We had the honor and privilege of having Brazilian pianist and singer Eliane Elias playing under the stars of the Mexican Caribbean. She left the audience in love with her seductive voice and the rhythm of Bossa Nova.
To close with a flourish this day, the trombonist and trumpeter Trombone Shorty got the audience dancing to the rhythm of their fusion of rock, pop, jazz, funk and hip hop.
On the third and last day, the Quintana Roo locals and tourists were delighted by the incredible talent of the New York Voices.
This was the second time New York Voices played in Mexico.
P Bug was the second group to take part on December 1st at the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, putting the public at the forefront of the new wave of funk and soul.
To end the festival with a flourish, the British reggae band UB40 was presented, entertaining with songs from “For The Many”, along with many of their hits such as “Kingston Town”, “Food For Thought”, “One in Ten “,” I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You “,” Don’t Break My Heart “,” Red, Red Wine “among others.
